I've been reading a lot of fiction lately. When life feels a little too real, I like to lose myself in a good book. Since the beginning of the year, I've read four books - about two thousand pages worth. I found a new author I like. Her name is Robin Hobb and she weaves these complicated stories about another world where there is magic and dragons and pirates and the like. This week I spent some time exploring the Psalms of King David. In our group on Wednesday, we discussed Psalms 1. This is one of my all time favorite Psalms. It doesn't follow the format of many of David's other poems about and to G-d and I think what really draws me is the simplicity of it. I memorized it when I was 8 years old and it has popped into my mind countless (literally) times in the 40 years since. It says:

I woke up this morning wondering what this day would bring. The sky was clear, the air was crisp, the birds and squirrels were at their business of life. I went through all of the motions of preparing for the day and found myself on auto-pilot and arriving at work. I consider myself very fortunate to have the job I have.
